The view from above

Whoever coined the term helicopter parent was brilliant. I'm guessing it was an educator of some sort. But what a perfect metaphor. Parents swooping in to save the day or wreak havoc, depending on your point of view. Never letting their kids grow up completely because they never let them truly fail. I have another point of view. Helicopter parents can also be like secret agent guardian angels. They view from a distance, sometimes with alarm, but always with a benevolent purpose. I think they do eventually let go, as their kids have kids and they watch their own children become them. I mean, I've never heard of helicopter grandparents.

Luckily for me, I have one kid left to actively observe and she's a doozy. In some ways, this will be the journal she refuses to keep. Because, honestly, you could not make up the life she is having it is so outrageously, ridiculously wonderful most of the time. And when it's not outrageously, ridiculously wonderful, it is just a tiny bit frightening as youth without wisdom so often is. So while I don't know everything, I know enough to make for some interesting reading.
